Somerset, KY – (August 19, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is moving forward on upgrading the highway network in Pulaski County.  As a result of the $739,707 dollar contract previously awarded on KY 39, we are nearing completion of curve realignment and shoulder widening to ensure a safer road for motorists in Pulaski County.

The contract was awarded to Hicon Construction, LLC, of Bardstown, Kentucky earlier this year.  The project should be completed early next month. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.

“This will help to repair and upgrade what was one of the more dangerous roads in Pulaski County and to provide a safer roadway for our motorists,” said acting Transportation Cabinet Secretary, Bill Nighbert.

Beginning Monday, August 22, 2005, KY 635 will be closing from the intersection of KY 39 MP (13.5) to the intersection of KY 635 and KY 3216 (MP 12.1) to through traffic and is expected to remain closed until Friday, September 2, 2005.  Motorists will be routed through KY 635 on KY 3216 to KY 452 to KY 39 until completion of the construction of the intersection with KY 39.

The existing detour on KY 39 will also remain until Friday, September 2, 2005.

“Drivers in this area are urged to slow down, use caution and watch for work crews,” said District 8 Public Information Officer, Stephanie Daffron.
