FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Announce Resurfacing Work on North Broadway (US 25) in Scott County

LEXINGTON, KY – (May 12, 2005) – As part of Governor Ernie Fletcher’s vision to provide a safe and reliable transportation system, acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert announces the resurfacing of North Broadway (US 25) in Scott County.

“As part of our highway-economic development plan, this resurfacing project will improve mobility for the people of Scott County and Kentucky,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.

Resurfacing will occur from Clayton and Highland Streets (MP 3.551) to the North Fork of Elkhorn Creek Bridge (MP 4.585), and is scheduled to be complete by June 1, 2005.  Currently crews are working near Penn Street performing a pipe encasement which requires boring under North Broadway.  Once complete, resurfacing operations will begin.

Motorists are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone as crews will be present along both the road and right-of-way throughout this area.  Appropriate signs, barrels and other traffic control devices will be used to mark the work zone.  Motorists can expect lane closures and traffic shifts once the resurfacing work begins.

Hamilton, Hinkle & Ruth of Georgetown has been awarded this $406,445 project.  HHR and their subcontractors will perform all work.

Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
