LEXINGTON, KY (April 19, 2005)—The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways announces that beginning Wednesday, April 20, KY 213 (Bedford Road) will be reduced to one lane at milepoint 7.28 (Bridge over Slate Creek) for a bridge overlay project in Montgomery County.
The overlay project will require alternating lane closures to complete with a temporary traffic signal to be placed at each end of the project to allow motorists to safely travel the route throughout the duration of the project. "The Cabinet’s main goal is to ensure the safety of motorists traveling this "Work Zone" as we make improvements to the existing bridge," said Amos Hubbard, Chief District Engineer for the District Seven office in Lexington.
The repairs will consist of milling 1 ¼ inch of the existing surface and replacing it with a waterproofing latex/concrete surface. This improvement will prolong the life of the existing bridge and will help prevent damage to the structure from various chemicals and natural elements.
This $59,461.37 project has been awarded to Overlay, Inc., of Mitchellburg, Kentucky and has a scheduled completion date of June 30, 2005. Appropriate signs, barricades, and other traffic control devices will be used to alert motorists to the closure.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks motorists to be aware of the closures and to utilize safe driving habits throughout the work zone.
