LEXINGTON, KY – (July 11, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Fayette County.  One contract, totaling $249,532.60, has been approved by the cabinet in the recent June letting.

“This project reflects my administration’s commitment to ensuring that drivers in Fayette County are able to get to their work, schools or other destinations with confidence that our state’s roads are in the best condition possible,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.

The $249,532.60 project provides for the resurfacing of Winslow Street (US 27) from South Limestone Street (MP 5.685) extending north to South Upper Street (MP 5.769) and KY 1974 (Tates Creek/Euclid Avenue/Avenue of Champions) from Cooper Drive extending north to US 27.  The project has been awarded to L-M Asphalt Partners, LTD., of Lexington, Kentucky.

The contract awarded to Fayette County is contained in one of the largest lettings ever by the Transportation Cabinet.  Fayette County is one of 12 counties in District Seven. Approximately $2.5 million has been awarded for projects in District Seven. Statewide, more than $167 million worth of projects have been authorized.

“These new projects will help to repair and upgrade our aging highway infrastructure and provide safer roads that will further economic development and enhance safe travel for Kentuckians,” said acting Secretary Bill Nighbert.

Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is October 1, 2005. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
