MEDIA ADVISORY
LEXINGTON, KY (March 14, 2005)—The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways announces that the I-64 exit ramps to Van Meter Road, in Clark County, will be closed beginning Monday, March 14, 2005 as part of the I-64/Van Meter Road widening project.
The closures will occur Monday and Tuesday (March 14 & 15) night between the hours of 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM. The closures are necessary to allow the contractor to place a portion of the new Van Meter Road bridge beams. During this period, Van Meter Road will be reduced to one lane with traffic maintained in both directions with flagmen. The ramps from Van Meter Road to I-64 will remain open.
Motorists traveling I-64 will encounter rolling roadblocks beginning with the westbound lanes on Monday night and the eastbound lanes on Tuesday night. Motorists wishing to access downtown Winchester should use either exit 87 (Bluegrass Station) eastbound or exit 96 (KY 627) westbound.
Variable Message Boards will be in place on I-64 and the Mountain Parkway in advance of the closure. Additional signs, traffic control devices, and local law enforcement will be used to assist motorists.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks that motorists use caution when traveling through highway construction work zones.
