Taylor Mill Road Widening Project in
Kenton County Continues
The northern section will help develop business opportunities
COVINGTON, KY – The northern section of the Taylor Mill Road (KY 16) will soon see construction activity, following the awarding of a contract for the next section of a widening project. The project area extends from Blackstone Court on Old Taylor Mill Road to I-275.
“This road construction project is the next segment for providing a new and improved Taylor Mill Road. When the entire project for reconstruction of KY 16 is completed, drivers along the corridor will see improved traffic flow,” said Rob Hans, Chief District Engineer for Department of Highways District 6, in Covington.
Lawrence Construction and Leasing Inc., of Walton, Ky., was awarded the contract on a low bid of $7.8 million.
This is the second of four sections being reconstructed to form a new, 4.2-mile roadway. The improved corridor will have two lanes in each direction with center turn lanes placed at intersections. A raised grass median will also compliment this roadway to provide for safety and aesthetics. It also will have curbs, gutters and 7-foot-wide sidewalks.
Weather permitting, utility work and some clearing can be seen throughout the winter. The main construction on this roadway will be in the spring.
The construction on the southern section, beginning near Klette Road (KY 2047) and continuing to Sunbrite Drive, started in early spring 2011. The alignments and safety of the intersections of Senour Road and Hands Pike will also be improved. This 1.2-mile section has a construction cost of $9.2 million and is scheduled for completion in late summer 2012.
