Governor Fletcher & Transportation Cabinet Award $5.5 Million in Highway Contracts in Carroll County
Covington, Kentucky – (September 26, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Carroll County. Two contracts, totaling $5.5 million, has been approved by the cabinet.
“We want Kentuckians and visitors alike to know that WHENEVER you drive and WHEREVER you drive in this Commonwealth, you can count on safe, dependable roads,” said Acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert. “As we evaluate projects, safety, reliability and economic development are at the top of the list.”
Worthville-Carrollton Road (KY 227) from .018 mile south of the old KY 227 extending north to .18 mile south of Park Acres will be resurfaced. Ohio Valley Asphalt LLC, of Paris, Kentucky was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $55,730.00.
A second project was awarded for the widening and reconstruction of US 42 from Burley Estates to 800 feet east of Four Mile Road for a distance of 1.1 mile. There will be three lanes, including curb, gutter and drainage improvements. It will have wide gutters to allow for drainage improvements to this area. The eastern end of US 42 includes a bridge replacement of the Four Mile Creek Bridge. Hinkle Contracting Corporation, from Paris, Kentucky was also awarded the low bid for this contract in the amount of $5,518,274.62.
Carroll County is one of eleven counties in District 6. Approximately $20.5 million has been awarded for projects in District 6 during the latest round of contract approvals. Statewide, more than $91 million worth of projects have recently been authorized which brings the total amount of contracts awarded this year to more than $521 million.
“Here in Kentucky we have embraced a philosophy that relies on a solid transportation system as the underpinning for flourishing commerce,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher. “Highway projects such as these are a shining example of our commitment to those principles.”
Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
