Second Phase has Begun
Covington, Kentucky – (August 18, 2005) – As part of Governor Ernie Fletcher and acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert’s vision of providing a safe and reliable transportation system, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announces that the second phase of KY 17 has begun.
“The continuation of KY 17 is another example of our commitment to improving safety on our highways while making the necessary improvements that will increase the potential of future economic development opportunities and preserve the quality of life for citizens of Kenton County and for Northern Kentucky,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.
Judy Construction Company, from Cynthiana, Kentucky was awarded the project with their successful bid of $15,239,498.60 million.
The project will involve tying in the new alignment with the existing KY 17. It will be a continuation of four lanes with a depressed median to Harris Road/KY 536. From Harris Road/KY 536 there will be four lanes with a continuous turning lane with side walks, curbed gutters and bike lanes to Apple Drive.
Traffic impacts should be minimal for the remainder of this year.
Construction updates will be given weekly. They will be sent out to media and posted on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District Six webpage in the Road Report link http://www.kytc.state.ky.us/D6/D6.htm
The next phase of KY 17 anticipates to be completed by late Summer of 2007.
