The John’s Hill Road Reconstruction/University Drive

Realignment Project to begin

$4 Million Project will improve access to the NKU campus

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet wants to inform the public that the John’s Hill Road (KY 2345) improvement project has begun in Campbell County.  The construction area extends from Knollwood Drive to the I-275 overpass, just past the Northern Kentucky University campus.

“We are pleased with the opportunity to work closely with NKU officials and staff in making these roadway improvements.  This project will provide for enhanced traffic flow in and around the campus,” said Rob Hans, Chief District Engineer for Department of Highways District 6, in Covington. “This is the second and final phase for improvements to University Drive, which will allow for better connection with Johns Hill Road.”

Eaton Asphalt Paving Co. Inc., of Covington, Ky., was awarded the contract for $4 million.

John’s Hill Road will be a new alignment with curb and gutter, sidewalks and bike lanes, providing for a pedestrian friendly environment.  The project also includes rerouting University Drive on the NKU campus to intersect with John’s Hill Road.  The intersection will be a roundabout design.  This will be the second roundabout constructed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet alongside the NKU campus.  The first was constructed in 2007 at the intersection of Nunn and University Drives.

Construction will begin the week of April 4.   Traffic will be maintained throughout the construction project, which is to be completed in spring 2012.
