English Bridge in Carroll County Officially Dedicated

RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY HELD FOR THE NEW ENGLISH BRIDGE IN CARROLL COUNTY

Covington, Kentucky- (September 27, 2005)- A handful of dignitaries and many people from English Community and Carroll County were present to formally dedicate the new KY 389 – English Bridge with a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday. Speaking at the ceremony were 26th District State Senator Ernie Harris, 47^th District State Representative Rick Rand, Kevin Rust, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 Branch Manager of Pre-Construction and Carroll County Judge Executive Harold “Shorty” Tomlinson.

“This bridge is definitely an asset for the Community of English.  We want to thank all those involved in getting this bridge built, the legislature for getting the appropriate funding, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for the design and construction and the people of Carroll County for their patience,” said Carroll County Judge “Shorty” Tomlinson.  Kevin Rust, District 6 Branch Manager of Pre-Construction, added that “this new bridge will improve safety and get the roadway out of the floodway.  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet always loves to see the finished product and how it adds to people’s lives.”

Dora Maiden, a 92 year old resident of English, officially cut the ribbon to dedicate the new bridge as local and state officials and several residents stood by.

The new bridge replaced the structurally deficient bridge.  It is a wider bridge that has two 12 foot lanes and 4 foot shoulders and includes new approaches that provides more vertical clearance from Mill Creek.

Construction on the 1.6 million dollar bridge began in May of 2004.  It was opened for motorists in August of 2005.  Ohio Valley Asphalt was the primary contractor of this project.  Owenton Resident Engineer’s Office supervised the project and Brian Young was the Project Manager.
