Covington, Kentucky – (November 16, 2006) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 Office wishes to inform the public that the bridge replacement project on KY 435 over Big Bracken Creek is ready to begin.  Contractors will be moving equipment and posting signs for the project next week before the Thanksgiving holiday.

D L Braughler Co., Inc. of Morehead, Kentucky was awarded the contract with a successful bid of $1,197,215.36.

The existing KY 435 Bridge is a Warren pony truss with a polygonal top chord.  The bridge spans approximately 90 feet over the Big Bracken Creek.  The bridge was constructed by the Champion Bridge Company of Wilmington, Ohio and is estimated to have been built in the 1920’s.   The new bridge and approaches will be 124 feet long. It will also be a steel truss bridge.   The new bridge will have two 10 foot lanes and two foot shoulders. Sight distance will also be improved.

Tom Schomaker, Executive Director for KYTC District 6 said, “The new bridge and approaches will be up to current standards which in turn will provide safer passage for the Bracken County motorists and the surrounding community.”

Motorists should expect road closure to begin in the spring 2007 for 180 days for the new bridge construction.  At that time traffic will be detoured to KY 1235 in Mason County to KY 8.

The construction project is anticipated to be complete the end of September, 2007.
