Governor Fletcher & Transportation Cabinet Award $8.1 million in Highway Contracts in Kenton County
Covington, Kentucky – (August 26, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Kenton County. Three contracts totaling $8,139,221.11 have been approved by the cabinet.
“Our highway system is the driving force behind Kentucky’s economic prosperity and flourishing commerce,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher. “These projects are an example of our continuing work to provide a safe and reliable transportation system throughout the commonwealth.”
One project is the third and final phase of the widening of KY 17. This project will add four lanes with a continuous turning lane from Apple Drive to KY 16/Walton-Nicholson Road, for a distance of approximately 1 mile. This will tie in with the current project that is constructing a new road from Pelly Road to Apple Drive. Central Rock Mineral Company, of Lexington, Kentucky was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $7,830,839.11. Construction is expected to begin this fall and anticipates completion by the end of 2007.
The second project is asphalt resurfacing on Orphanage Road (KY 371) from .288 miles north of KY 17 extending northwest to US 25 (Dixie Highway). Eaton Asphalt Paving Co., Inc., of Covington, Kentucky was awarded the low bid contract of $88,909.00.
Another contract was also awarded for asphalt resurfacing on various routes in Kenton County. Eaton Asphalt Paving Co., Inc., of Covington, Kentucky was also awarded the low bid contract of $219,473.00.
Kenton County is one of eleven counties in District Six. Approximately $12,262,333.59 million has been awarded for projects in District Six during the latest round of contract approvals. Statewide, more than $110 million worth of projects have been authorized.
“These maintenance, upgrades and new road projects reflect our commitment to the traveling public,” said acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert. “Kentucky’s motorists can rest assured that they are driving on safe, reliable roads.”
Locally, the asphalt resurfacing work is expected to begin in the near future and should be completed by the end of the year. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
