Governor & Transportation Cabinet Award $580,019 in Highway Contracts in Shelby County
Louisville, KY – (July 11, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Shelby County. Two contracts, totaling $580,019, have been approved by the cabinet.
“These projects reflect my administration’s commitment to ensuring that drivers in Shelby County are able to get to their work, schools or other destinations with confidence that our state’s roads are in the best condition possible,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.
Cropper Road (KY 43) will be resurfaced from Washburn Road to KY 241. Taylorsville-Shelbyville Road (KY 55) will be resurfaced from KY 148 to Interstate 64. Commercial Pavers, Inc. was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $189,410.
A second contract was awarded for the resurfacing of four roadways. Aiken Road (KY 362) will be resurfaced from KY 1531 to Webb Road. Hannah Road (KY 1315) will be resurfaced from KY 362 to the Oldham County line. Hickory Ridge Road (KY 1472) will be resurfaced from KY 395 to Samples Drive. Industrial Park Road (KY 2862) will be resurfaced from Dry Run Culvert to Old Finchville Road. Commercial Pavers, Inc. was also awarded the low bid for this contract in the amount of $390,608.
The contracts awarded to Shelby County are contained in one of the largest lettings ever in the Transportation Cabinet. Shelby County is one of 8 counties in District 5. Approximately $6.2 million has been awarded for projects in District 5. Statewide, more than $167 million worth of projects have been authorized.
“These new projects will help to repair and upgrade our aging highway infrastructure and provide safer roads that will further economic development and enhance safe travel for Kentuckians,” said acting Secretary Bill Nighbert.
Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is November 2005. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
