Louisville, KY – (August 26, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Shelby County. A contract, totaling $148,794, has been approved by the cabinet.
“Our highway system is the driving force behind Kentucky’s economic prosperity and flourishing commerce,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher. “This project is an example of our continuing work to provide a safe and reliable transportation system throughout the commonwealth.”
Virgo Road (KY 1005) will be resurfaced from KY 12 to the Franklin County line. Shelbyville Asphalt Company LLC was awarded the low bid for this contract.
Shelby County is one of eight counties in District 5. Approximately $3.6 million has been awarded for projects in District 5 during the latest round of contract approvals. Statewide, more than $110 million worth of projects have recently been authorized.
“These maintenance, upgrades and new road projects reflect our commitment to the traveling public,” said acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert. “Kentucky’s motorists can rest assured that they are driving on safe, reliable roads.”
Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is October 2005. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
