LOUISVILLE, KY (November 9, 2005) - Governor Ernie Fletcher has authorized $95,342 in funding for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to proceed with safety improvements on Palatka Road in Jefferson County.  This funding will be used to resurface approximately 800 feet of an S-curve on Palatka Road (KY 1142) from Venetian Way to Stone Hill Road. Improvements will also be made to the elevation of the curve.

"By authorizing this money, we are fulfilling my administration’s primary mission to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Kentucky," said Governor Fletcher.

In addition to the resurfacing, centerline reflectors will be installed along with edgeline and centerline rumble strips. Some tree trimming has already been performed at this location. Once construction is complete, the area will be reviewed for enhanced traffic signing and additional tree trimming.

"By moving forward with these improvements, we are providing a safe, reliable transportation system for the residents and motorists in this area," stated Acting Secretary Bill Nighbert.

Certified Construction Company was awarded the low bid for this contract in the amount of $95,342. Construction will begin the week of November 14, 2005. Resurfacing of the roadway will be performed on weekends to minimize disruption to the traveling public. The entire project is scheduled for completion in December 2005.
