Governor & Transportation Cabinet Award $4,188,581 in Highway Contracts in Jefferson County

Louisville, KY – (July 11, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Jefferson County.  Seven contracts, totaling $4,188,581, have been approved by the cabinet.

 

            “These projects reflect my administration’s commitment to ensuring that drivers in Jefferson County are able to get to their work, schools or other destinations with confidence that our state’s roads are in the best condition possible,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.

 

            Fegenbush Lane will be realigned from Poplar Level Road to Fern Creek and a new bridge will be constructed over Fern Creek.  Mac Construction & Excavating Inc.  was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $1,582,557.

 

            Crums Lane (KY 2049) will be resurfaced from Chevoit Drive to Dixie Highway (US 31W).  Commercial Pavers, Inc. was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $89,614.

 

            Turning lanes will be added at the intersection of KY 22 and Murphy Lane and the sight distance problem will also be corrected.  Gohmann Asphalt and Construction Inc. was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $1,608,000.

 

            Baxter Avenue (KY 1703) will be resurfaced from Eastern Parkway (US 60A) to Bardstown Road (US 31E).  Commercial Pavers, Inc. was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $80,266.

 

            A contract was awarded for the resurfacing of 21st and 22nd Streets.  21st Street will be resurfaced from 22nd Street (US 150) to Market Street (US 31W).  22nd Street will be resurfaced from Northwestern Parkway to US 31W.  Commercial Pavers, Inc. was awarded the low bid for this contract in the amount of $160,364.

 

            East Market Street (US 31E) will be resurfaced from Baxter Avenue to South Second Street and from Story Avenue to South Second Street.  Commercial Pavers, Inc. was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $394,876.

 

            Brownsboro Road (US 42) will be resurfaced from KY 1932 to the Interstate 264 bridge.  Commercial Pavers, Inc. was awarded the low bid for this contract in the amount of $272,902.

 

            The contracts awarded to Jefferson County are contained in one of the largest lettings ever in the Transportation Cabinet.  Jefferson County is one of 8 counties in District 5. Approximately $6.2 million has been awarded for projects in District 5. Statewide, more than $167 million worth of projects have been authorized.

 

            “These new projects will help to repair and upgrade our aging highway infrastructure and provide safer roads that will further economic development and enhance safe travel for Kentuckians,” said acting Secretary Bill Nighbert.

 

            Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is November 2005. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
