Bridge Replacement to Begin on KY 362 in Shelby County

Louisville, KY (June 30, 2011) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists to be aware of impending construction on KY 362 (Aiken Road) in Shelby County at the bridge over Junkins Run (mile point 6.2). Work is scheduled to begin the week of July 11th to construct a new bridge at this location.

The old structure consisting of three large culvert pipes was built in 1949 with 9-foot travel lanes and no shoulders.  The new structure will be made of precast concrete with 11-foot travel lanes and 4-foot shoulders.  Currently a 15-ton weight limit is in place on this bridge, but that restriction will be removed once the new bridge is constructed.

Louisville Paving, Inc. was awarded the contract for this project in the amount of $288,097.  The work is scheduled for completion by mid-September of 2011.

During construction, KY 362 will be closed at the bridge for two weeks. The closure is scheduled to begin on July 11th at 7:00 a.m.  Motorists should follow the signed detour via KY 1848, US 60 and Long Run Road.

The actual starting date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Dial 511 or log on to 511.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  Traffic information for the District 5 counties also available at www.facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5.
