Governor Beshear authorizes immediate action to reduce accidents at railroad crossing in Bullitt County
‘High’ grade blamed for stranded vehicles, crashes

FRANKFORT, Ky.  (June 16, 2011) – Gov. Steve Beshear has authorized the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to modify a railroad crossing in Bullitt County that has been a safety concern to residents of Hillview.

Numerous vehicles have become stuck on the CSX rail crossing on East Blue Lick Road and KY 1020 due to its height.  Several vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, have been involved in crashes with locomotives.

“The safety of Kentucky’s transportation system is vital,” said Gov. Beshear.  “I am directing the Transportation Cabinet to use discretionary funds to fix this crossing immediately.”

The Kentucky Department of Highways plans to raise the roadway on both sides of the track and increase the turn radius for trucks turning from East Blue Lick Road onto KY 1020.  The project is estimated at $48,000.
