Northbound Interstate 65 closed for Pavement Rehabilitation
Revised Schedule for Interstate 65 Rehabilitation
Louisville, KY – (October 11, 2006) – The Department of Highways District 5 Office announces the revised schedule for the Interstate 65 Rehabilitation. Northbound Interstate 65 between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and I-64 in downtown Louisville will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006 until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2006. All entrance and exit ramps for northbound I-65 within this work zone will be closed. During this same time period, the left lane of southbound I-65 will be closed to allow for barrier wall repairs. All lanes will be opened two hours prior to kickoff of the University of Louisville football game.
In order to accommodate traffic into the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center, the exit ramp from northbound I-65 into the fairgrounds will be open. This ramp is only for motorists going to the KFEC for events. The ramp will be signed accordingly. All other traffic will be detoured onto I-264.
Two hours after the University of Louisville football game ends (approximately 9:00 p.m.), the left lanes of both northbound and southbound Interstate 65 will be closed between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and I-64 in downtown Louisville. These lane closures will be in place until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2006 and will allow for barrier wall repairs.
During the northbound weekend closures, motorists should follow the signed detour via westbound I-264 and eastbound I-64 reconnecting with north I-65 at the John F. Kennedy Bridge.
All other weekend closures of Interstate 65 will be in southbound direction between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and Interstate 64 from 8:00 p.m. on Friday until 5:00 a.m. on Monday per the following schedule:
- Southbound Interstate 65 closed Friday, October 20 thru Monday, October 23
- Southbound Interstate 65 closed Friday, October 27 thru Monday, October 30
During the southbound weekend closures, through traffic coming from the Indianapolis area should follow the signed detour via I-265, I-64 and I-264 and reconnecting with I-65 at I-264. Local traffic in southern Indiana can follow the signed detour via westbound I-64 and I-264.
