Interstate 71 in Louisville reduced to one lane October 5-8
Louisville, KY (October 5, 2012) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office announces on Interstate 71 in both directions this weekend as part of improvements to the I-71/I-264 interchange. Contract crews will be placing asphalt base for the new lanes being built in this area.
The right lane of northbound I-71 will be closed between Interstate 264 (Watterson Expressway) and the Lime Kiln Lane underpass (mile points 4.9 and 5.8). This lane will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5th until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 8th. Contract crews will be removing the construction barrier wall to allow for paving of the new acceleration lane from I-264 East.
The left lane of southbound I-71 will be closed approaching the Watterson Expressway. This lane closure is scheduled for Saturday, October 6th from 7:00 a.m. until midnight. Crews will be paving the deceleration lane from southbound I-71 to westbound I-264.
The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph inside the work zone and fines will be doubled.
Appropriate signage and traffic control personnel will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public.
