ALL KENNEDY BRIDGE LANES TO BE OPEN BY AUGUST 1
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 26, 2012) –Repairs to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge are in the final phase of construction. All lanes and ramps at the bridge are currently scheduled to be open by August 1st.
Contract crews finishing repairs underneath the Kentucky approach to the Kennedy Bridge. Once this work is finished, the exit ramp from eastbound I-64 to northbound I-65 can be reopened. The ramp will be open to traffic by 5:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30th.
Paving of the Kentucky approach lanes on Interstate 65 are continuing as well as replacement of a section of the median barrier wall that was removed to build a traffic cross-over. To accommodate this work, the left lanes of Interstate 65 in both directions on the bridge will remain closed until 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1st.
Any corrective work deemed necessary by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will be done under evening and weekend lane closures.
The construction is being done by MAC Construction and Excavating, of New Albany, Ind. at a cost of $18.2 million. The schedule and duration of work are subject to change in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
