SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 71 LANES TO BE REOPENED
Louisville, KY (April 27, 2012) – Bridge deck repairs on southbound Interstate 71 in Jefferson County are being completed ahead of schedule. Work was scheduled to be completed by 6:00 a.m. on Monday, April 30th, but due to the good weather crews will be finishing the work this afternoon. All lanes should be open by 5:00 p.m. today before the evening rush hour.
Bridge repairs on northbound I-71 will begin after the Kentucky Derby. Concrete repairs will be completed on the nine sets of bridges on this side of the roadway between downtown and I-264 (mile points 0.0 and 5.5). Lane closures are currently scheduled for May 9th – 25th.
Once all bridge deck repairs are completed, the final asphalt surface will be paved between Interstate 64 and the Blankenbaker Lane overpass (mile points 0.0 and 3.5). During this phase of the project full road closures will be utilized on two weekends to expedite the construction process. Weather permitting, the first closure will occur from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11th until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, May 14th. More details will be provided closer to this scheduled work.
