Structure to be closed for painting and repairs

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 17, 2012) – The “Singing Bridge,” a local landmark in downtown Frankfort, will be closed beginning March 1 for repairs and repainting.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) awarded a contract for the project to G-Force Contracting, of Campbell, Ohio. Cost of the project is $1.26 million.

The bridge, which carries U.S. 60X, is scheduled to close to vehicles and pedestrians at 6 a.m. EST on Thursday, March 1, and will remain closed until late summer. Crews will paint the steel truss and perform some minor repairs to the steel grate on the bridge deck.

During the closure, motorists should follow the signed detour via U.S. 60, the Capital Avenue Bridge and West Main Street.

G-Force Contracting will be providing shuttle service to pedestrians needing special assistance in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  To receive this free service, pedestrians should call Frankfort Transit at 502-875-8565.  Signs will be posted at each end of the bridge advertising this service.

The starting date and duration of work may be adjusted for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.  Dial 511 or log on to 511.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  Traffic information for the District 5 counties is also available at www.facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5.
