Elizabethtown, Ky. (July 19, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has scheduled a public hearing on Thursday, July 21, 2005, allowing citizens an opportunity to view the alternatives considered and the federally approve Environmental Assessment, ask questions, and voice any comments or concerns regarding the proposed US 31E reconstruction project.  The purpose of the meeting is to gain public input on the material being presented. 


The hearing will be held at Bardstown High School, 400 North Fifth Street in Bardstown and will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at approximately 8 p.m.  A handout and video will provide a summary of the project and give the general outline of the hearing upon arrival.  The hearing will be an informal session from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.  During that time, individuals will be able to view the displays, receive right of way and relocation assistance information, ask questions and make comments to the court reporter and/or sign up to voice public comment during the formal session of the hearing.  At 7 p.m. a moderator will open the formal session of the hearing explaining the ground rules and allow those individuals who sign up an opportunity to voice public comment. 


In addition to verbal comments, written statements will be accepted after the public hearing, Monday through Friday, 8 am – 4 pm, local time, for 15 work days (until August 12, 2005) at the Kentucky Department of Highways District Four Office located at 634 East Dixie in Elizabethtown, Kentucky  42701.  The material presented during the hearing will also be made available at that location during the  same timeframe. 


All oral and written statements will become part of the official public hearing transcript.  This transcript and other supporting documentation will be made available for review and copying only after an Open Records Request has been received an approved.  All open Records Requests must be submitted to the Transportation Cabinet, Department of Administrative Services, Transportation Office Building, 200 Mero Street, Frankfort, Ketnucky  40622.
