State improving I-65 US 62 exit ramp in Elizabethtown
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Oct. 21, 2009) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is reconfiguring the northbound Interstate 65 exit ramp at US 62, in Elizabethtown, to improve traffic flow. Crews are installing an additional left turn lane for motorists turning onto westbound US 62 from Exit 94. There is currently one left turn lane and a right turn lane.
“The additional left turn lane will help prevent backup on the ramp and northbound I-65, improving mobility and safety at the interchange,” said Patty Dunaway, chief engineer for the Transportation Cabinet’s Elizabethtown highway district.
Work is under way this week to remove existing traffic islands and install widened sensors for the traffic signals. Weather permitting, crews are scheduled to pave and stripe the intersection and install a new traffic signal head next week. The project will cost around $10,000.
Motorists are asked to use caution in the work zone. Minor delays are possible during construction.
