GOVERNOR FLETCHER AND THE KENTUCKY TRANSPORTATION CABINET AWARD $392,000 FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY UPGRADES AT NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
FRANKFORT, KY (January 10, 2007) – Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) are taking action to improve mobility and safety at a new elementary school in Laurel County. The Governor and KYTC recently committed $392,000 to construct turn lanes on KY 363 at the entrance to the new Wyan-Pine Grove Elementary School.
“Governor Fletcher’s administration is proactive in identifying safety projects across Kentucky, and taking necessary action to improve the quality of life in communities,” said Transportation Cabinet Secretary Bill Nighbert. “With an enrollment exceeding 600 students, these lane additions at Wyan-Pine Grove Elementary School will be extremely beneficial by providing safe and efficient access to the campus while maintaining traffic flow on the roadway.”
Construction to build the Wyan-Pine Grove Elementary School, located .8 mile south of the I-75 Bridge on KY 363, began in June 2006 and is expected to be complete in June 2007. Turning lanes will be constructed at the school entrance, a center left turn lane with a lengthy storage and a right turn lane with tapers for anticipated school traffic.
“I am very grateful to Governor Fletcher and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for making the money available to construct the turning lanes at Wyan-Pine Grove Elementary School. The lanes will enhance traffic flow and contribute to the safety of students and residents in the community,” concluded Laurel County Schools Superintendent David Young.
