GOVERNOR FLETCHER AND TRANSPORTATION CABINET ANNOUNCE SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS FOR US 119 IN HARLAN COUNTY Project will alleviate traffic hazards on major highway
FRANKFORT, KY – (October 23, 2006) – Motorists in Harlan County will soon see improvements on US 119 at Coldiron. The Transportation Cabinet just announced a construction project worth over $87,000 that will improve highway safety for this community.
The improvement project includes a center left-turn lane at the intersection of US 119 and KY 2007. The turn lane will alleviate traffic congestion and other traffic hazards at this intersection.
The Department of Highways work crews will perform the work which should begin this week. The project is expected to be completed around the first of December 2006. The total project cost is $87,489.76.
“This construction project is another example of how the Transportation Cabinet is committed to fulfilling Governor Fletcher’s vision of providing safe and reliable roads that supports healthy economic growth and builds strong communities,” said Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert. “Improving this section of US 119 is a priority in this community. Through the commitment of the citizens, elected officials and the Fletcher administration, we were able to make these improvements a reality.”
Representative Tim Couch (R-Hyden) said, “I am working hard for my district and appreciate the Governor and Secretary Nighbert working with me on this issue. The citizens of the Coldiron community definitely appreciate the funding for this project.”
