Governor Fletcher & Transportation Cabinet Award $370,511 Highway Contract for Leslie County
Manchester, KY – (June 12, 2006) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Leslie County. A contract totaling $370,511 has been approved by the cabinet.
“For Kentucky to sustain a robust economy, we must continue to support and strengthen a solid transportation infrastructure,” said Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher. “These projects are indicative of the kind of improvements we must continue to make in our transportation network. The fiscal health of the Commonwealth and the overall quality of life for all Kentuckians depend on this kind of progress.”
A contract was awarded for the resurfacing of KY 699 (Cutshin Creek Road), from the Cutshin Senior Citizen Center (MP 8.170) extending northerly to pavement change (MP 13.570), a distance of 5.40 miles. Mountain Enterprises Inc, Lexington, KY was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $370,511.68.
Leslie County is one of 8 counties in Highway District 11, which includes Bell, Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel and Whitley. Approximately $2,098,082 has been awarded for projects in District 11 during the latest round of contract approvals. Statewide, more than $94 million worth of projects have recently been authorized.
“These projects further Governor Ernie Fletcher’s commitments to providing the commonwealth with safe, dependable roads that lead to new jobs,” said Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert. “Through these projects, we are moving the state forward and providing greater opportunities for everyone who calls Kentucky home.”
Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date will be November 30, 2006. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
