Governor Fletcher & Transportation Cabinet Award $426,459 in Highway Contract in Leslie County
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Leslie County. A contract, totaling $426,459 has been approved by the cabinet.
“We want Kentuckians and visitors alike to know that WHENEVER you drive and WHEREVER you drive in this Commonwealth, you can count on safe, dependable roads,” said Acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert. “As we evaluate projects, safety, reliability and economic development are at the top of the list.”
Harlan to Hyden Road (US 421) from KY 2058 north to Slate Drive/Stone Coal Branch will be resurfaced, a total of 4.73 miles. Mountain Enterprises, Inc. was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $426,459.
Leslie County is one of eight counties in District 11. Approximately $3 million has been awarded for projects in District 11 during the latest round of contract approvals. Statewide, more than $91 million worth of projects have recently been authorized which brings the total amount of contracts awarded this year to more than $521 million.
“Here in Kentucky we have embraced a philosophy that relies on a solid transportation system as the underpinning for flourishing commerce,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher. “Highway projects such as these are a shining example of our commitment to those principles.”
Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is August 15, 2006. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
