Governor Fletcher & Transportation Cabinet Award $214,677 in Highway Contract in Clay County

MANCHESTER, KY –(August 26, 2005)— The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Clay County.  A contract, totaling $214,677 has been approved by the cabinet.

 “Our highway system is the driving force behind Kentucky’s economic prosperity and flourishing commerce,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.  “These projects are an example of our continuing work to provide a safe and reliable transportation system throughout the commonwealth.”
 
 Beverly Skidmore Road (KY 66), from Bell County Line extending N to KY 1524 will be resurfaced, a total of 3.84 miles.  Elmo Greer & Sons LLC was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $214,677.  
 
Clay County is one of 8 counties in District 11.   Approximately $15.5 million has been awarded for projects in District 11 during the latest round of contract approvals.  Statewide, more than $110 million worth of projects have recently been authorized.  

“These maintenance, upgrades and new road projects reflect our commitment to the traveling public,” said acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert. “Kentucky’s motorists can rest assured that they are driving on safe, reliable roads.”

Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is October 30, 2005. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
