Governor & Transportation Cabinet Award $498,501.62 in Highway Contract for Bell
MANCHESTER, KY –(July 11, 2005)— The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Bell County. A contract, totaling $498,501.62, has been approved by the cabinet.
“This project reflects my administration’s commitment to ensuring that drivers in Bell County are able to get to their work, schools or other destinations with confidence that our state’s roads are in the best condition possible,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.
Funding in the amount of $498,501.62 has been awarded to Elmo Greer & Sons LLC for asphalt resurfacing on US 119, from .240 miles N of US 25E extending north to KY 1344, total of 6 miles.
The contract awarded to Bell County is contained in one of the largest lettings ever in the transportation cabinet. Bell County is one of 8 counties in District Eleven. Approximately $11,390,722.58 has been awarded for projects in District Eleven. Statewide, more than $167 million worth of projects have been authorized.
“These new projects will help to repair and upgrade our aging highway infrastructure and provide safer roads that will further economic development and enhance safe travel for Kentuckians,” said acting Secretary Bill Nighbert.
Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date will be October 15, 2005. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
