JACKSON, KY – (Jan. 25, 2007) -- Crews from the Department of Highways District 10 are out spot treating state highways in the district’s 10 counties this morning, as snow has arrived in the area.

Light to moderate snow is being reported across the region. Crews are treating trouble spots such as bridges, intersections, hills, curves and areas of high elevation. Minor snow accumulations are being noted on rooftops and grassy areas in the higher elevations, but roads are generally clear with wet pavement reported. Highways may be partly covered in a few isolated areas. Drivers should be alert to the possibility of encountering slick spots, and use extra caution on bridges and overpasses.

District 10 county maintenance crews pre-treated major highways and trouble spots such as hills, curves and intersections on secondary routes yesterday in preparation for today’s precipitation.

Motorists should “Drive Smart” and reduce speed and be alert to changing weather and highway conditions.

Road condition reports for major routes in Kentucky are available by calling 511 or by logging on to the 511 travel and traffic information website at

District 10 includes the counties of Breathitt, Estill, Lee, Magoffin, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Powell and Wolfe.
