| JACKSON, KY – (April 21, 2005) -- Personnel from the Kentucky Department of Highways intend to remove a beaver dam in Morgan County. The dam is located on Little Caney Creek alongside US 460 in the Greear community, west of West Liberty. Tentative plans are for the dam to be removed Friday, April 22.
This portion of Little Caney Creek was relocated when improvements were made to US 460 in the early 1980s. Maintenance standards call for the steam channel to be maintained to the original specifications of the relocation. The beaver dam represents a change from those standards.
Personnel from District 10’s Operations Branch have evaluated the situation and have determined that the dam may constitute a danger to the US 460 roadway, as well as to adjacent property owners, during the upcoming spring rainy season. Therefore, the decision has been made to remove the dam before any flood damage occurs.
The dam will be removed with care being taken not to harm any of the animals.
