JACKSON, KY – (May 13, 2005) -- As part of Governor Ernie Fletcher’s vision to provide a safe and reliable transportation system, acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert announces one highway improvement project in Lee County.

"As part of our highway-economic development plan, this road project will improve mobility while providing more opportunities to the people of Lee County and Kentucky," said Governor Ernie Fletcher.

The project involves flood repair for FEMA at two sites on two highways. Repairs will be done to the following routes:

• KY 399, Heidelberg Road, one site between the Owsley County line and the Kentucky River bridge at Heidelberg.
• KY 1144, Fairground Ridge Road, one site between KY 52 and KY 498.

Hayes, Inc. of Betsy Layne was awarded the low bid contract for $56,151.32.

Work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is Sept. 30.

Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
