JACKSON, KY – (May 13, 2005) -- As part of Governor Ernie Fletcher’s vision to provide a safe and reliable transportation system, acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert announces two highway improvement projects in Breathitt County.
"As part of our highway-economic development plan, these road projects will improve mobility while providing more opportunities to the people of Breathitt County and Kentucky," said Governor Ernie Fletcher.
The first project involves the installation of guardrail on KY 1110, Haddix-Whick Road. Guardrail will be installed from the top of the mountain at mile marker 5.852 extending north to the foot of the mountain at mile marker 6.502.
The Ruth Company of Lexington was awarded the low bid contract for $61,571.42.
Work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is Aug. 15.
The second project involves flood repair for FEMA at six sites on three highways. Repairs will be done to the following routes:
- KY 541, War Creek Road, one site between KY 52 and KY 15.
- KY 542, Guage-Lambric Road, two sites between KY 30 and the Magoffin County line.
- KY 3193, Wolverine Road, three sites between KY 15 near Jackson and KY 15 near Fivemile.
Hayes, Inc. of Betsy Layne was awarded the low bid contract for $82,977.01.
Work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is Oct. 30.
Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
