Rockfall Closes KY 7 North of West Liberty
Press Release Date:  January 5, 2005

H.B. Elkins

Public Information Officer, District 10

JACKSON, KY – (Jan. 5, 2005) -- A rockfall Wednesday morning has resulted in the closure of KY 7, West Liberty-Sandy Hook Road, just north of West Liberty near mile marker 1.

This rockfall is in the construction zone where a new alignment of KY 7 is being built, and is between KY 7’s intersections with US 460 and KY 519.

Current estimates are that the highway will remain closed for at least one day while the contractor on the construction project removes the fallen boulders.

During the closure, motorists are asked to detour via US 460, KY 172 and KY 1161. Northbound KY 7 traffic heading for Morehead will be able to turn back onto KY 7 south to reach KY 519. Southbound KY 519 traffic heading for West Liberty will need to turn onto KY 7 north and reverse the detour route.
