JACKSON, KY – (Sept. 15, 2005) -- Drivers in Morgan County are being cautioned to drive safely along KY 7 north of West Liberty, where traffic patterns have changed due to construction efforts.

Today, the Transportation Cabinet shifted traffic on KY 7 between West Liberty and KY 519 to a new alignment as part of a $14 million construction project to improve this heavily traveled regional through route. Travel between West Liberty and Morehead, Sandy Hook and Grayson will be affected by this traffic pattern shift.

Drivers are reminded that this area is still part of a construction zone. Although traffic is now using the new alignment of KY 7, final paving work and other activities necessary to complete the project are still ongoing. Electronic message boards will be placed to alert drivers to reduced speed limits on this section of highway.

Motorists are asked to "Drive Smart" and be alert for flaggers, workers and equipment in the construction zone. They are also reminded to slow down in work areas, to obey any posted speed limit reductions, and to pay attention to any traffic control devices such as cones, barrels or barriers they may encounter in the work zone. There may be delays in the work area, so drivers should plan their trips accordingly.
