Governor Fletcher and Transportation Cabinet announce $131,000 in County Road Aid emergency funding to Estill County Fiscal Court
FRANKFORT, KY –(Nov. 9, 2005)—Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet today announced emergency road funding for the Estill County Fiscal Court. The county has been authorized to receive $131,000 for a drainage structure on Locust Branch Road. The project will involve replacing a low-water bridge that frequently is covered by floodwaters.
"This project is just one example of the cabinet’s commitment to recognizing a problem and taking action for a solution," said acting Secretary Bill Nighbert. "These emergency funds are being used to improve safety and mobility in Estill County."
"This bridge has long been a problem area," said Wallace Taylor, Estill County judge-executive. "It has been a spot of continuous flooding and as a result, families are trapped and school buses are unable to run this route. This project will be a great benefit to the residents of the area. It will be a long-term money-saving project and is a terrific safety improvement enhancement for Estill County. We are grateful to Governor Fletcher and the Transportation Cabinet for this emergency funding."
County Road Aid emergency funds will be used for this project. The county is responsible for all phases of the work to install the drainage structure, which is located 1.1 miles south of KY 594. A check will be issued directly to the county for payment for the repairs.
