Area residents invited to attend public meeting on replacement of Quicksand bridge in Breathitt County
JACKSON, KY – Residents of Breathitt County are invited to attend a public informational meeting to discuss a project to replace the bridge crossing the North Fork of the Kentucky River leading to the Quicksand community.
The meeting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at the Quicksand Community Center. It will be an “open house” format meeting with no formal presentation.
Representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and project consultants will be available to answer questions and provide information about the project. Handouts will be available describing the project’s purpose and need, the right-of-way acquisition process and potential utility relocation concerns.
A project is under consideration to replace the old, deteriorating bridge on Quicksand Road (CR 1387) with a modern structure to improve safety and reliability. The existing one-lane bridge carries a reduced weight limit of 3 tons.
Persons with disabilities who wish to attend the meeting but have special needs that require assistance should contact the project manager, Corbett Caudill, at (606) 666-8841 to request special assistance.
