New flashing beacons installed near Beattyville Elementary School
JACKSON, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has installed new flashing beacons and school zone signs in the vicinity of Beattyville Elementary School in Lee County.
The additions include new overhead flashers at the crosswalk on KY 11 (Broadway) in front of the school, as well as two new school zone signs with flashers. These are located at the south end of the North Fork of the Kentucky River bridge, for northbound traffic, and near the railroad crossing, for southbound traffic.
The flashers will operate between 8 and 8:25 a.m. and 2:55 and 3:30 p.m. These times may be adjusted in the future if circumstances dictate.
These new traffic control devices replace a single overhead flasher and school zone pedestrian crossing sign that previously operated 24 hours per day.
Motorists are reminded that the speed limit on this section of KY 11 is 25 mph. This speed limit is in effect 24 hours per day. During times when school is convening or dismissing, Beattyville city police officers provide traffic control for pedestrian and school bus traffic in this area. Motorists are reminded to use caution in this area and to obey the directions of the traffic control officer.
