JACKSON, KY. – (May 10, 2007) – Motorists using KY 550 in the Airport Gardens section of Hazard will experience delays beginning Monday, May 21, as work begins on a $1.5 million road improvement project.

The project involves constructing a two-way center turning lane on KY 550 between Jarnigan Place and Meadowbrook Drive. Also involved in the project are relocation of utilities; construction of new storm sewers, curbs and gutters; and the extension of a culvert near the entrance to Pizza Hut.

During the project, drivers will likely encounter flaggers and experience one-lane traffic. Delays are likely during work hours, which will typically be from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The work is expected to take approximately three to four months to complete.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution in this area while the work is ongoing. They are asked to “Drive Smart” in this work zone and be aware of workers, construction equipment and lane closures when traveling in this area.
