Delays Likely May 15-16 at Intersection of KY 80 and Justice Drive in Perry County
JACKSON, KY. – (May 7, 2007) – Motorists using KY 80 and Justice Drive near Hazard in Perry County will likely encounter delays on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15 and 16, while new lane markings are applied to the travel lanes on Justice Drive.
During the project, only one of the two left turn lanes from eastbound KY 80 onto Justice Drive will be open. All traffic entering Justice Drive and the Wal-Mart parking lot from KY 80 will be directed to turn into the entrance near the Murphy Oil gas station. This includes traffic heading to Lowe’s, the Perry County Detention Center and the Kentucky State Police post. Those motorists will have to drive through the Wal-Mart parking lot to reach their destinations.
When the work is complete, traffic patterns on Justice Lane will be changed. There will be one inbound through lane and an extended left turn lane for traffic turning into the Lowe’s parking lot. This lane will be accessed from the inside left turn lane on eastbound KY 80. Traffic using the other left turn lane from KY 80 will be directed to turn into the Wal-Mart lot behind the gas station. Traffic movements will be indicated by arrows on the pavement and by signage.
The work will be done if weather permits, and will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution in this area while the work is ongoing. They are asked to “Drive Smart” in this work zone and be aware of workers, construction equipment and lane closures when traveling in this area.
Justice Drive is maintained by the Perry County Fiscal Court. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is doing this work at the request of the Perry County Fiscal Court through an agreement between the two agencies.
