JACKSON, KY – (March 26, 2007) – Motorists traveling KY 82 in Powell County between Clay City and the Estill County line may encounter delays this week due to work in the vicinity of the Red River bridge at milepoint 1.084.

Kentucky Department of Highways crews will be working to stabilize the river bank beneath the bridge. A logjam downstream of the bridge has caused erosion in the area, and the Department of Highways will be placing rock at the base of the bridge abutments to prevent damage to the bridge supports.

Motorists are advised to watch for slowed or stopped traffic in this area, as heavy equipment will be entering and exiting the highway in the vicinity.

Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to “Drive Smart” in work zones and be aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling in areas where projects are ongoing.

This project is expected to continue all week long.
