Frankfort, Ky. -- The portrait of the Honorable Donald C. Wintersheimer will be presented to the Supreme Court of Kentucky at a dedication ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2008. The ceremony will be held in the Supreme Court chambers at the Capitol. 

Honorable William T. Robinson, III., chairman of the resolution committee composed of lawyers who had worked with Wintersheimer, will make the presentation to the Court.  The portrait will hang in the corridors of the second floor of the Capitol Building.

Justice Donald C. Wintersheimer received his A.B. from Thomas More College in 1953, his M.A. from Xavier University in 1957, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati in 1960.  He was in private practice until he was elected to the Court of Appeals in 1976.  In 1982, he was elected to the Supreme Court, reelected in 1990 and again in 1998.

He has published three Law Review articles in the area of State Constitutional Law for Northern Kentucky University, Salmon P. Chase College of Law and the Albany Law Review.  He has also published an article in the Law Journal of the National Legal Center for the Medically Disabled, Issues in Law and Medicine, and for the Temple Law Review. 

Justice Donald C. Wintersheimer is a member of the Kentucky and Ohio Bar Associations, as well as the American Bar Association, the Cincinnati Bar Association, the Northern Kentucky Bar Association and the American Society of Writers on Legal Subjects.  He is a founding member of the Chase American Inn of Court, a member of the American Judicature Society and the Institute of Judicial Administration, and a member of the Adjunct Faculty of the Chase College of Law. 

He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Interest on Lawyers, Trust Accounts (IOLTA), he was a chairperson of the Judicial Legal; Education Committee, chairperson of the Supreme Court Rules Committee and was chairperson of the Criminal Rules Committee.

Justice Wintersheimer has received Kentucky Bar Association Recognition Awards for Continuing Legal Education and he was named Outstanding Jurist by Phi Alpha Delta Legal Foundation in 1990.  In 1998, he was recognized as a distinguished alumni of the University of Cincinnati.  Justice Wintersheimer is a former president of the Thomas More Alumni Association and the Kentucky Municipal Attorneys' Association and has received the community service award, Distinguished Alumnus Award and Outstanding Teacher Award from Thomas More College.
