FRANKFORT, Ky. — Students in 10 Kentucky schools will attend arts events and performances at venues across the state after being recently awarded Kentucky Arts Council TranspARTation grants.

The grants provide funding to Kentucky classrooms for transportation to and from arts experiences. Grants are based on the mileage from the school building to the arts organization or performance venue and the number of buses necessary. There is a minimum grant amount of $100.

“The TranspARTation grant is still relatively new, but we know that educators are grateful to add it to their teaching toolbox,” said Lori Meadows, executive director of the arts council. “This funding allows some students in Kentucky, who might not otherwise have the chance, to experience the wonder of a live arts event – many for the first time.”

TranspARTation grants were awarded to the following schools for events that will occur between July and December:

  • Our Lady of the Mountains Elementary, Johnson County, $702.
  • Bryan Station High School, Fayette County, $1,380.
  • Rosenwald Dunbar Elementary, Jessamine County, $100.
  • Florence Elementary, Boone County, $100.
  • Girdler Elementary, Knox County, $1,000.
  • Peaks Mill Elementary, Franklin County, $240.
  • Sharpe Elementary, Marshall County, $232.
  • Brodhead Elementary, Rockcastle County, $1296.
  • Danville High School, Boyle County, $352.
  • Carr Creek Elementary, Knott County, $320.

Any Kentucky public or private school that supports grades pre-K through 12 may apply. Grants are awarded on a quarterly basis. Applications for the next round of funding are due Sept. 1, for field trips occurring from October to December.

Schools that receive TranspARTation grants must attend arts events presented by one of many pre-approved TranspARTation organizations. Groups recently added to the pre-approved list are:

  • Paramount Arts Center, Ashland
  • University of Kentucky Art Museum, Lexington
  • Jenny Wiley Theatre, Prestonsburg
  • Kentucky Repertory Theatre, Horse Cave
