Nationally Recognized Lexington Gallery Celebrates 25 Years in Craft Sales
Frankfort, Kentucky - Kathy and Mike Stutland will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their retail store, Artique, a fine art and craft gallery in Lexington, Kentucky, with a reception on Sunday, September 25th, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. (EDT). Conceived as a venue for co-owner Kathy Stutland's hand-painted batiks, the Stutlands developed the idea of promoting fine American crafts.
Since 1980, Mike and Kathy Stutland have nurtured this vision from a small boutique into a nationally renowned, full-spectrum fine contemporary American craft gallery. The store, which began in an 850-square-foot space in the downtown Lexington Civic Center, now fills a 4,500-square-foot space. And in 1996, a second store, Artique - Lexington Green, was opened in The Mall at Lexington Green.
“We got involved in the crafts world because it gave us a lot of joy to provide a marketplace showcasing the artistic endeavors of so many talented people. It is very satisfying to be a part of this creative community", says Mike. And while Stutland represents nearly 1000 craft artists from all over the country, he has a particular affinity for Kentucky artisans.
“Mike represents Kentucky craft in so many ways – as a retailer with a national reputation, through his leadership and vision for the local and statewide arts community, and his strong personal relationship with the state’s many talented artisans”, says Fran Redmon, program director for the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program, a division of the Kentucky Arts Council, Commerce Cabinet.
Artique has been awarded the Top 100 Retailer (for the seventh year) by Niche Magazine, a national industry publication (www.nichemag.com). In 2004, Artique was voted the “Best Gallery” in Kentucky by readers of Kentucky Monthly Magazine and in 1998, Artique received the Leadership Achievement Award from the city of Lexington, Kentucky.
Many events are planned to celebrate the Stutlands’ awards and their 25 years of business. Events are free and open to the public and will be held at the Lexington Green, 161 Lexington Green Circle and the downtown location at the Civic Center
410 W. Vine Street, Lexington.
