FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Arts Council will present a series of workshops – with topics relevant to performing artists, visual artists, teaching artists and arts educators – Dec. 14-15, 2010, on the second floor of the Old Fine Arts Building on the campus of Murray State University, Murray, Ky. Over the two days, 17 sessions will be presented; some will be repeated at different time slots to accommodate potential participants’ schedules.

Workshops and information sessions include applying to Kentucky Arts Council programs, choosing work samples for juried exhibitions, producing effective marketing materials, creating arts lesson plans using national standards and using art in the classroom to build 21st-century skills. A special networking session will give people with an interest in the arts an opportunity to share information about projects, events and resources in western Kentucky communities. For a complete schedule of workshops and their descriptions, go to http://bit.ly/KACwkshpMur.

All workshops are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is appreciated. For more information or to sign up for specific workshops, contact Sarah.Schmitt@ky.gov or 888-833-2787, ext. 492.

Similar workshops will be presented Jan. 11-12, 2011, in Somerset and Jan 25-26, 2011, in Hazard. Schedules and locations will be announced as they become available.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
