FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Arts Council announces a new grant to provide transportation funding to help students get from schools to arts events and performances.

The TranspARTation grant is open to any school, public or private, that needs transportation funding to attend activities at the following approved venues:

The arts organizations were selected from applications submitted by Kentucky Arts Partnership organizations. Successful applicants demonstrated appropriate arts programming and the ability to provide supplemental educational materials to teachers and schools.

“I’m very pleased that we are able to offer this assistance to schools,” said Lori Meadows, executive director of the arts council. “We have learned that sometimes, just getting the kids there is the biggest barrier in providing arts education experiences for our Kentucky children.”

Grants to schools will be awarded on a quarterly basis, with the first application deadline March 1, 2012. For guidelines and the application form, go to For more information about the TranspARTation grant and other arts education programs available through the arts council, contact Rachel Allen, arts education director, at or 502-564-3757, ext. 486.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
