Kentucky Arts Council Offers Information Sessions about Art and Craft Marketing Programs
FRANKFORT, Ky. —The Kentucky Arts Council will introduce craftspeople and visual artists to the state-sponsored Kentucky Crafted and Visual Arts at the Market Programs at a pre-jury session from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., on October 24, 2007 at the Claypool-Young Auditorium, Morehead State University, Morehead, Ky. Additional sessions are being offered at the University of Louisville (November 15, 2007) and the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea (January 9, 2008).
The pre-jury sessions are for Kentucky craftspeople and visual artists that are interested in pursuing wholesale and retail sales of their work, as well as developing products derived from their original work. The sessions will review the Kentucky Crafted and Visual Arts at the Market programs, the application and jury process, and the benefits of being accepted into the programs. Those interested in applying to either of the programs may bring samples of their work for individual consultations following the sessions. The application deadline for these programs is March 15, 2008.
The Kentucky Crafted Program is open to all Kentucky residents who create traditional and contemporary crafts in ceramics, fiber, glass, metal, wood, mixed media, or other natural materials.
The Visual Arts at the Market Program is open to all Kentucky artists working in two-dimensional media such as painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and mixed-media work.
Juried participants in these programs have an opportunity to market in wholesale and retail venues, such as the New York International Gift Fair, Kentucky Crafted: The Market, and the Governor’s Derby Breakfast. Participants also may use program logos, and benefit from special exhibition opportunities and technical assistance including product development grants.
The pre-jury sessions are free and open to all Kentucky artists and craftspeople interested in marketing their work. Pre-registration is required. To register, go to http://kycraft.ky.gov/formdata/prejury_102407reg.htm.
