FRANKFORT, Ky. The Kentucky Arts Council, the state's arts agency, will promote performing artists and groups that have been selected for inclusion in the Kentucky Performing Arts Directory at the Performing Arts Exchange in Atlanta, September 24-27, 2008.

The Performing Arts Exchange, produced by the Southern Arts Federation, is a marketplace and a professional development conference, connecting artists with performing arts presenters and venues throughout the Southern, Mid-Atlantic and New England states.

Acceptance into the Kentucky Arts Council's Performing Arts Directory is based on artistic excellence, performance experience and marketing capacity, as judged by an independent panel of performing arts professionals. There are currently 92 individual artists or groups participating in the Performing Arts Directory program.  For a complete listing of performing artists on the directory, including contact information and sample clips, go to http://artistdirectory.ky.gov.

The Kentucky Arts Council will also promote Performing Arts Directory artists in a day-long showcase, Kentucky On Stage on November 5, 2008, at Falling Springs Recreation Center Theater in Versailles. Although the event will be primarily to promote music, theatre, storytelling and dance to performing arts presenters, the showcases are free and open to the public.

For more information about the Performing Arts Directory or Kentucky On Stage, contact Individual Artist Program Director, Tamara Coffey, toll-free at (888) 833-2787 or tamara.coffey@ky.gov.

The Kentucky Arts Council is a state agency in the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet that creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
